This is a series of paintings.
Unnamed Birds is a series that emerges from the artist’s sense of displacement. As a racialized artist from a peripheral context, he feels pressured—both by external and internal influences—to address themes that are often considered the expected territory of racialized artists, even though painting itself is a space of such open experimentation.
In this series, the artist departs from these expectations, seeking refuge in one of the most traditional subjects in the history of painting: nature, more specifically, birds. By doing so, he rejects the imposed stigmas and freely explores color and form, in the same way that non-racialized artists have historically been able to do.
